Features

Clusters of small, red flowers in early spring add mild interest.

Culture

Full sun to light shade; prefers slightly moist, slightly acid soils; tolerates drought as well as poorly drained sites.

Notes

When planted in alkaline soils, this tree may exhibit chlorosis (yellowing leaves) due to a manganese deficiency. Excessively vigorous root system can clog sewer pipes and break sidewalks. This species grows quickly which leads to weak wood that is prone to storm damage.
