Clusters of small, white flowers in late spring; clusters of small, dark, blue-black fruit in summer; reddish-purple fall color; horizontal branches give the tree a unique layered appearance.
Partial shade to full sun; moist, well-drained soil; prefers acid soils, but tolerates alkaline soils.
This species can be used as either a large shrub or a small tree.
